ProFind is advanced file search app for macOS.

With powerful features and great performance, ProFind delivers advanced file search for macOS. And with support for natural language queries, application launching, hidden location searches, scripting and more.

Search inside invisible folders and packages. Searches any disk type.

Uses kernel based searching (searchfs) when available. Uses metadata indexes (as used by Spotlight) when available to improve performance. Autocompletion for application names. Large icon view for one or two search results.

Under it's elegant user interface, ProFind combines the power of macOS's different search capabilities to make sure it finds all the files your looking for. And it's been carefully tuned for performance and responsiveness.

Version 1.39:

  • Added Open With... to the menu shown when an item is right clicked.
  • Clicking the inspector icon in the toolbar reveals a preview and file information. Let me know what you think the inspector should show. macOS 14 or later.
  • Sorting by the size column will now calculate the size of all folders shown in the results.
  • Add ": locked" or ": not locked" to a query to filter locked or unlocked items.
  • Passing a full path to the inside command will restrict results to only that location. For example: : inside /Volumes/DiskName/
  • Fixed a bug in group searches.

Mount the image, drag the app into the "Applications" folder and launch it. If the system blocks the launch, allow it in "System Settings → Privacy & Security".

The app is damaged or won't launch

Reinstalling from a fresh image usually helps. Make sure your macOS version matches the one listed in the compatibility specs.

How do I update?

Download the new version from the site and install it over the current one — your settings will be preserved.
