Rectangle makes window management on macOS faster, more intuitive, and highly customizable. Inspired by the convenient window-snapping features found in Windows, it lets you arrange windows using keyboard shortcuts or simple drag-and-drop gestures.

Move windows to the left or right half of the screen, place them in corners, resize them to one-third or two-thirds of the display, maximize them, transfer them to another monitor, and more. Every shortcut can be customized, making it easy to create a setup that fits your workflow. You can also view all available commands from Rectangle’s menu bar icon.

Rectangle’s snap-assist feature lets you drag a window to an edge or corner of the screen to automatically reposition and resize it. Dragging a window to the top maximizes it, while moving it to a corner or side places it into a predefined layout. Once you release a snapped window, it can return to its previous size and position, or you can restore it with a keyboard shortcut.

Built as a modern successor to Spectacle, Rectangle offers a powerful set of window-management tools while remaining open source and free to use. After incorporating it into your workflow, managing windows on a Mac becomes considerably quicker and more efficient.

There are a bunch of macOS functions that aren't particularly easy to toggle on or off, and some can't be disabled at all.

OnlySwitch aims to make a few switches more accessible and add a couple that aren't available in the first place. It also provides some extra features, such as an Xcode derived data cleaner and radio player.

Useful switches in your menu bar
The app itself is pretty simple. It adds an icon to the menu bar, which you can use to access a collection of switches. Among others, you can hide the MacBook Pro notch, hide desktop icons, enable Night Shift, show hidden files, and toggle auto-hiding the Dock and menu bar.

If some of these switches aren't necessary, you can disable them from the app's preferences. A few aren't even enabled by default, so be sure to check them out in case you find some of them useful.

Hide the notch, listen to radio stations, and more
Of course, everyone's needs are different, and some of the app's features are definitely not for everyone. If you have a 2021 MacBook Pro, with its characteristic notch, OnlySwitch allows you to blend it with the rest of the menu bar, and it even supports dynamic wallpapers.

If you like listening to online radio, the app even has an integrated player. You can add your own stations and select your preferred one from the settings. The player is accessible and can be controlled from the menu bar.

If you're a developer, a quick shortcut for clearing Xcode derived data might also prove useful.

Helpful switches in a customizable menu
Apple certainly makes some things less accessible than we would like, and apps like OnlySwitch seek to remedy that. Considering that it's completely free and open-source, there's no reason not to grab it if any of its switches sound useful.

The app allows you to move your window by using predefined templates, and then enables you to save the current layout for later use.

By default, Moom is running as a standard application (you can find its icon in the Dock), but via the Preferences window, you can choose to switch to the menu bar app, or decide to hide its menus altogether (the app tools can be activated with a hotkey).

Moom comes with a collection of predefined window movement patterns that can be accessed by hovering the pointer over the maximizing button of any window. You can move windows by using the arrow keys, or resize them by making use of the Moom windows grid.

The best part is that you must work on creating a specific window arrangement only once: Moom is able to save the current windows position and then allows you to activate the layout any time you need. This function is extremely useful because you can define layouts suitable for specific tasks, and then toggle between them in no time.

Noteworthy is that, via the Moom Preferences window, you get to define your own custom windows controls, activate useful functions (the window grid), or define your own keyboard shortcuts. Exploring the Preferences is very important to learn everything Moom has to offer.

Moom is a great tool to have around if you want to make the most out of your desktop space: you can use efficient tools to move the windows around, or resize them until you find the suitable layout for the current task. The best part is that you can save the arrangement, and use it any time you like.

Simply double-click on the title bar of a window and it will roll-up like a window-shade. The window is now out of the way yet easily accessible. Double-click again and the window restores to its original size and position.

Window-shaded windows provide quick, intuative access to all of your windows because windows stay where you put them and you can see all your windows at once. Drag a window until the mouse cursor enters one of these zones then drop the window to have it cinch into place. Cinching to the left or right edges of the screen will resize the window to fill exactly half the screen, allowing you to easily compare two windows side-by-side (splitscreen). Cinching to the top edge of the screen will resize the window to fill the entire screen (fullscreen). Dragging a window away from its cinched position will restore the window to its original size.

If you prefer a keyboard-centric approach to window management, you might also take a look at our other products SizeUp or TwoUp. Use Cinch together with either SizeUp or TwoUp to cover both your mouse and keyboard needs.
